Absolutely! Scaling up a business often entails a mix of operational changes to handle growth. Hiring more staff helps manage increased demand, while investing in infrastructure or technology keeps things running smoothly. Streamlining processes enhances efficiency, and adapting marketing strategies reaches a wider audience to fuel growth. It’s like upgrading all the necessary gears to keep the business engine running smoothly and better.

Cloud Kitchens are most popular in India, where the newest concept is originated from.

In 2003, a Sequoia-backed startup called Rebel Foods started its first business, Faasos which sells Kebabs.  Initially they were doing great but have problem scaling.  They started to sell foods from their current kitchens using a different brand, and the rest is history.

How interesting – thanks for sharing!

Yes, their website is down.  I wonder if they got acquired by Deliveroo, however there’s no news about it.

I found their past website here https://web.archive.org/web/20201020234609/http://keatz.com/

              Thanks for sharing this Stan!

Yes, this is one of the aspect of Ghost Kitchen that we’re really optimistic about.

Restaurants especially in US have a high failure rate, and ghost kitchen models can be a real life-saver for slow kitchens!

Welcome to the forum Passionfruit!  I’m not familiar with Mauritania area, would love to hear more about the situations there!

Ghost kitchen model is really thriving where restaurant rental lease is astronomical, cost of opening a restaurant is great, but demand for food deliveries are growing.

Jaden_66 is correct that most ghost kitchens concepts are highly concentrated in popular fast food.  It will be interesting to see if there’s room for complex cuisine in the future – never say never.

It would be interesting to see how cloud kitchens differentiate themselves regionally.  Every region has its own quirks.

Yes, that sounds like a great idea!

To gauge that demand, ghost kitchen is perfect to get started with.  You don’t have to commit to long-term lease to just test the market if there’s any appetite for North African cuisine out of North African region.

This is why I love the industry as well, I’d definitely try it out if there’s one nearby!  I personally am a foodie and trying out different kind of food is my passion.

I’d say it would be wise to choose a menu that you can sell, then purchase the equipment based on that menu.

Your ability to sell a menu item trumps all other decisions.

This is very vital in any kind of business.

Delivery in rural area isn’t optimal yet since the fuel cost would be higher compared to high-density area.

However, if people don’t mind doing pickups rather than delivery, I don’t see why cloud kitchen couldn’t survive!

Right now cloud kitchen is great for area where restaurant lease is astronomical and the area is densely populated.

Right now the process is very varied among providers.

I’ve written a simplified guide in this post: How to start a Cloud Kitchen

Usually because it’s considered a new thing,  providers are more than willing to train you if you’re new to the industry.  Your success means less turn-overs for them.

Make sure you have good communication with the provider and you should be golden.

                              Good news for you Walikirito,

Pakistan seems to start having a good ecosystem in place.  From my short research, here are the resources that could help you get started:

                              https://tribune.com.pk/story/2271815/cloud-kitchen-concept-comes-to-pakistan

                              Excerpt:
a team of the startup would visit [a businessperson] and memorise the recipe to produce the same dishes in Rawalpindi while the original chef of the recipe would be paid a royalty of 6-15% without any risk-sharing...

So far I found 2 Cloud Kitchen providers:

                              https://hotpod.pk/

                              https://cloudkitchenspakistan.com/

I’ve added these companies to the masterlist, so be sure to check the list from time to time!

An idea for all of you, that box can be an extra revenue channel – reach out to businesses that wants your customer’s attention and see if they are interested in advertising in your box!

We see this happens in fashion catalog all the time.

You’re on the right track!  Many food trucks providers ended up opening a cloud kitchen as the next step as rental cost skyrocket, making it tough to get good profit margins.
